3 Most Important Tips to Applying Falsies

3 Most Important Tips to Applying Falsies

There is not one Instagram famous lady who doesn’t know her way around a tube a glue and a pair of falsies. False eyelashes have definitely come more in vogue due to the birth of the selfie, yet applying as well as getting them to stay in their lane can be a bit tricky. If you would rather avoid looking like a distant cousin of Cruella Deville, here are the 3 most important tips you should keep in mind when applying those falsies!

  1. The Right Fit- Like a pair of jeans if the fit isn’t right you are in for one uncomfortable ride. Always make sure before gluing that the lash strip fits your lash line. Everyone has different eye shapes and lashes right out of the packaging will not always be the correct length. Therefore, it is essential to trim lashes to ensure that the strip does not extend past the outer corners of the lash line.
  2. Wet is bad, Dry is Good- One of the main reasons that falsies come off is because they were applied to lids that were not clean surfaces. This means that concealer and shadow can not be in the way either. Such products can create a barrier between lash strips and the skin causing the adhesive to not work its magic thus making the strips lift. Always ensure that skin is completely dry or free of products that may get in the way of the glue being able to attach the lashes properly.
  3. Less is More- It may be tempting to use more adhesive thinking that more product will equal more strength and staying power, but do not be fooled. Your face is not a 3rd grade science project and all that excess adhesive will most likely look like one big excessive mess. Always dab on a thin layer of glue beginning with the inner corner that will rest the closest to your nose. If you tend to add too much glue when you are free-handing it with the tube of glue, try applying adhesive to the lash strip using a Q-tip. The cotton swab will help to prevent too much adhesive from being applied to the falsies.

Beauty and the Business 2015

Processed with Moldiv

We had an amazing day at this year’s Beauty and the Business event held in Los Angeles, California!

Attendees and guest speakers were not just from the west-side, but came from all over the U.S. ranging from Chi-town to Atlanta, Georgia. We were completely blown away by the transparency of the various panels and spotlighted entrepreneurs. They possessed a genuine positivity to help one and all achieve their ambitions of being a beauty (inside and out) and succeeding in the career path of their dreams.

One moment that we shall never forget is when a gentle soul by the name of Octavia approached the microphone during an Q&A session and revealed her struggle of doing all that she could in her power to put herself through Cosmetology school.

Octavia had put in so much work and effort to see her dream realized, but just could not seem to get over life’s hurdles. All that stood in her way was $700 in order to start her schooling. Octavia in tears poured out her heart and asked the panel what their advice would be for anyone trying to get ahead, trying to be like them, yet can not seem to get there no matter how hard they try.

At that very moment, something that we had NEVER seen before happened that would change this woman’s life forever.

Several business owners that were a part of the event began offering to pay for a portion of Octavia’s training. Within seconds $300 had been raised and by the end of the event Octavia had ALL $700 necessary to begin school!

Octavia’s journey resonated with so many in the audience that a huge portion of attendees were in tears and erupted in applause over Octavia’s prospects of achieving the education she so badly desired for so many years.

Octavia and Taryn Tarver

We were moved by Octavia’s story as well and approached her about staying in touch. Her determination and strength to get in front of a crowd of people and ask for help is truly inspiring. Therefore, we are happy to announce that we will be sharing Octavia’s journey through school as she keeps reaching for the stars.

It is our hope that her story will inspire you as well to never stop reaching higher because you CAN get to where you want to be if you stay grinding, strong and be fearless.

Expert panelists as well as speakers included Juntae DeLane, DeeDee Kelly, Chris Gees, Taryn Tarver, Gloria Williams, Malaika Paul, Monique Lauren Peters, Dr. Kari Williams, Rita Owens, Ardre Orie and D.L. Master Barber.

The event was hosted by the fabulous Melissa Hibbert who was also our May 2015 covergirl for our big beauty issue. Melissa’s as well as her well-chosen associates freely gave of their knowledge and strongly encouraged all to network.

Melissa Hibbert and Panel Number One

The overall theme and thrust of the event helped visitors to realize one thing… you are not going anywhere without hard work. Every happy ending on stage was the result of trials, tribulations, sweat, working for free, doing favors and believing in one self. Knowing one’s worth, value and talent was another important facet of making it big.

Many shared with the audience that they literally had little to no money when they started out, but they hung in there anyway. What helped make these experts so relentless in their quest for success? It is because they knew they possessed the talent to be someone and they were not going to let anything, not even negativity get in the way.

Isn’t it true that sometimes the biggest enemy or person in the way of our own dreams is ourselves?

We loved how each expert eloquently articulated that fears must be put away and one must look within and believe that they are worth the journey. So then, if any of you are working toward your own definition of success, we admonish you to not give up. You are close to the finish line and we are all waving you in for your trophy.

Missed Beauty and the Business 2015? Don’t forget to attend next year, but until then here is a quick video highlight of the event…

Beauty Question: What Happens When Your Mascara Grows Old?

Beauty Question What Happens When Your Mascara Grows Old

Beauty Answer: It retires and goes to live a quiet life in the Bahamas, the end. If only our sense of humor had some truth to it in this regard but mascara doesn’t have such a fairy tale ending ladies. In fact, out of all the beauty products that you have in your possession, most likely your mascara will have the shortest shelf life. This means if you have had the same tube for awhile it may just be time to lay it to rest.

“Well, my mascara works just fine and I have had it for months!” We are sure there are some that feel that way but ponder on these next few facts. Mascara’s performance can be affected by outside temperatures so it is important to make sure your tube avoids extreme cold and heat. Moreover, over time mascara ingredients start to oxidize and degrade. Degradation means that compounds in the formula will break down and the product’s strength or intensity will fade.

Beauty Question What Happens When Your Mascara Grows Old2

Such degrading can lead to dried up formula and the causing of flakes. A look that you definitely do not want to rock in public. So then, how long should mascara be kept after purchase? Every three to four months your mascara should be tossed in favor of a newer one.

Contouring For Your Bust

Thanks to the help of socialites, Youtube and makeup artists contouring has literally changed the face (pun intended) of makeup. Now women everywhere can have perfectly sculpted cheekbones illuminating light gracefully. Nevertheless, some ladies may not realize that this contouring technique isn’t new at all but has been used for years by men who enjoyed dressing in drag. If you don’t believe a quick search in the google and youtube archives shall be enough to seal the point.

However, what more can we learn from drag queens when it comes to makeup? Quite a lot actually, because these drag ladies are quite skilled with cosmetics in order to transform themselves to give off a more feminine look which is where contouring comes into play. Some are so good you would never even know it wasn’t your best girlfriend standing next to you.

Contouring as taken a lot of heat because some MUAs feel that women do not need to use such a technique because they already possess a soft, feminine look. However, the lure of perfection and a beat face makes natural seem like so old-fashioned. Makeup should always just be fun and a way to enhance your best features. If contouring helps you to achieve that then go for it!

That is a enough of cosmetics history class, the good news is that drag queens don’t just contour their face but use it to enhance another area as well… the bust. Alright, fellow flat-chested ladies and those in need of a lift contouring your bust will make them look bigger and shapelier! Think about it, perfect looking breasts and a beat face! Best of all, it all can be achieved without the aid of surgery.

5 Ways to Help Curb Your Hunger

5 Ways to Help Curb Your Hunger2

Okay ladies, summer is seven months away and by making some changes now you can have an eye-popping body when things really heat up! One problem that many struggle with when it comes to weight loss is diet. Especially, here in the states where portions are enormous and are like eating 3 meals in one setting.

Nevertheless, beyond learning the correct portion size at mealtime just getting to the point of eating less can be challenging. On paper losing weight is quite simple, burn more calories than you take in or consume. With that being said, are there any tips that will make diet less stressful? Of course darlings, here are 5 ways to help curb your hunger!

5 Ways to Help Curb Your Hunger

  1. She Eats Carbs!– In The Devil Wears Prada carbs was a sin, but when it comes to feeling full longer you are going to want to partake in some fiber. Fiber found in whole grains, seeds, nuts, veggies and fruits like apples will help fill that bottomless pit of a belly quicker helping you consume less.
  2. Water Baby– Take a clue from an old toy and make sure that you are FULL of water. Dehydration is a major culprit for overeating because the body increases hunger pangs in order to try to tempt you to drink more and rehydrate.
  3. Cool Like a Cucumber– Tough exams, work projects and gaining a zit before picture day can make any gal throw her hands up in protest. However, remaining calm is the best answer to not overeating when stressful situations occur. Stress can cause a hormone known as Cortisol that will make you hungry. Go for a jog, dance, comment under Drake’s muscle pics or anything else that helps you feel at peace.
  4. Be a Regulator– This may sound like you are getting ready to drop the hardest LP of 2016, but nope its just suggesting you regulate your blood sugar. If you don’t then you will crave more food which could result in you guessed it, more weight gain. How can this regulation be achieved? Eat fiber/proteins and drink plenty of H2O.
  5. So Trashy– The best way to curb cravings is to get rid of the bad foods that you crave regularly. If that is too tough try buying snacks that come in small packages instead of the larger bags or boxes.
