We recently had the honor of speaking with Terrinique Pennerman the CEO genius behind haircare line Kurlee Belle! Moreover, we gabbed away about natural haircare, business goals, inspiration and of course, all the wonderful Kurlee Belle products. Q: Terrinique thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat with us. Tell us, what inspired you to start your own hair company?

A: Kurlee Belle started as a result of my natural hair journey. I wanted to stay away from harmful chemicals now that I was wearing my hair in it’s natural state. At the time, I couldn’t find products made from natural ingredients that gave me the results I desired so I started mixing my own hair treatments and twisting cremes— from the knowledge that I had acquired as a child growing up in The Bahamas. We would mix mayo, banana, avocado and egg as deep conditioning treatments and shea butter and coconut oil to moisturize and define the hair. My friend saw how well the treatments and butters were working for me and he encouraged me to start my own hair care line. That is how Kurlee Belle began.

Q: We absolutely love your brand’s name! Has such a nice ring to it. How did you come up with the name, Kurlee Belle?

A: Thank you! I actually came up with the name during a trip to Rome, Italy. At that time, I was transitioning from relaxed to natural, so I would wear curly weaves to blend in with my curly hair. As a tourist in the city, I think I stood out because of my very dark complexion. I would go to the local restaurants and the waiters would be like “Bella! Bella!” which means beautiful in Italian. The word Bella really stuck with me so I started playing around with the combination of Belle and Bella. Kurlee is the pronunciation of the word “curly” so Kurlee Belle stood out more to me than Kurlee Bella.. and that is how I came up with the name. 🙂

Q: Please tell us more about your line. What type of products can women expect to find and buy?

A: Kurlee Belle is inspired by hair care recipes from the Islands of The Bahamas (The country that I am from.) Our products are made from natural ingredients and do not include: parabens, sulfates, animal ingredients, gluten, paraffin, phthalates, mineral oil, PABA, DEA, synthetic color, propylene glycol or petroleum.

We have six products in the line, all of which smell like tropical goodness and are very light meaning they won’t weight your hair down but will nourish and define the hair. Kurlee Belle consists of Almond & Shea Butter Moisturizing Shampoo, Thirsty Kurls Leave-in Conditioner, Banana Nut & Avocado Deep Treatment, Kurl Defining Creme, Jelle Coconut Styling Gel and Kurlee Tropical Oils Blend.

Almond & Shea Butter Moisturizing Shampoo is sulfate free and will leave your hair feeling clean yet moisturized. A little goes a long way so you do not need to use much of this. This shampoo makes your hair soft, so that you can detangle as you wash. I love this product because it is the best shampoo I have ever used. If you are a co-wash girl, this shampoo will make you a believer. It is just that good!

Thirsty Kurls Leave-in Conditioner which is our Best Seller is made from Hibiscus, Aloe Vera and Honey. Naturals love this product because it provides a lot of slip for detangling, moisturizes and defines curls. It has a light Hibiscus scent. Naturals love it so much, they usually buy two bottles at a time.

Banana Nut & Avocado Deep Treatment is also a best seller! Made from Banana, Coconut, Avocado and Honey. Naturals love this because it smells like you’re baking Banana Nut Muffins when you put this on your hair. It promotes growth strengthens, tames frizz and makes the hair soft and manageable.

A: In the next 5 years, I see Kurlee Belle as being the premier internationally recognized hair care product line that offers a variety of products made from natural and organic ingredients for women, kids and men. Helping and educating people around the world on how to grow healthier, beautiful hair.

Q: We love seeing women such as yourself making such a powerful impact. To any young girl reading this what advice would you give her when it comes to following in your footsteps and being successful?

A: My advice would be to do what you love. Follow your passion. If you are not sure what your passion is, just ask yourself what you are good at or what do you enjoy. When someone is doing something that is in line with their passion or purpose the world is generous to them. Don’t start a business solely to make money, start a business with a purpose that is greater than yourself. That is where you will find true joy and make an impact.

We were kind of skeptical when we learned of this hair tip. In theory of course it sounded logical, but some of the best sounding tricks at times fall flat. Nevertheless, so what exactly is the deep conditioning hair workout plan?

First, you begin by completely saturating your tresses with a hair oil. We tried coconut, grapeseed, argan and Moroccan oil. Next, toss your hair up in a bun or if shorter pin it back and away from your face. You don’t want to clog your pores with all that excess oil do you?

After hair is in position go exercise! That is when the magic starts to happen. Once your body begins to heat up due to your movements the oil in your hair will also heat up. While you workout you will be giving your strands a nice hot oil treatment. Thus, deep conditioning your hair.

Deep Conditioning Hair Removal

Oil does not mix with water so you will need more than just H2O to remove it from your strands. All you have to do is wash your hair like normal and the treatment will rinse out. The deep conditioning hair workout plan is a very easy at-home treatment that can be done as often as you need.

Hair Crush: Keke Palmer Short Cut

Okay it’s official Keke Palmer is Angela Bassett reincarnated. I may have been too little to see Waiting to Exhale when it came out but I know a Bassett cut when I see one! Nevertheless, this isn’t a discussion of who did it first because Palmer is simply slaying my life right now. The Keke Palmer short cut is definitely one of my 2016 hair crushes!

No this isn’t the first time Keke has chopped off all her locks. However, each time I absolutely love it. There’s some women who make short hair iconic. Like Halle Berry, Toni Braxton, Zendaya, Rihanna, Amber Rose, Dorothy Dandridge and Diana Ross. Palmer is right in the mix for me.

Not everyone can pull off short hair yet Keke makes it look like a sizzling trend every single time. The Keke Palmer short cut is a pixie dream. Short but with plenty of texture. The hairstyle says I’m all business with sassy allure.

Plus, I just love the attitude this style gives her! You can tell in her head she’s thinking, “I didn’t come to play with y’all!” She always seems more feisty (in a good way) when she rocks with the short hair.

Blac Chyna’s extensions are from Kendra’s Boutique (on the Gram search for @kendrasboutique you’re welcome LOL) and were custom colored to achieve their very red tint. The hair is the boutique’s Brazilian Deep Wave Hair. Lengths that were used to create Blac Chyna’s look were: 20/22/2-24 and a 16″ Deep Wave Lace Closure.

As you can see, the Brazilian hair trend is continuing its reign right into summer. Since so many women are indulging in the trend do a Blac Chyna and change things up a bit by incorporating a little color. We love that she went fiery red, serving up some mad Jessica Rabbit vibes. Lash extensions are an excellent way to cut down on time when creating your daily makeup look. After 6 snooze button clicks, 5 minutes of deciding if your job or education is important then realizing you now have 15 minutes left to get ready in the morning; anything that can help a sista out is truly heaven sent. With that said, imagine waking up every morning with lashes that make your eyes pop with a dazzling radiance which looks 100% natural. It’s no dream and many women are living it.

Lash extensions are becoming a major staple in the beauty world. Numerous salons are now offering the service as part of their beauty lineup. Nevertheless, it is always best to know ahead of time what to expect before having the procedure done. As a wise man once said, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.”

Lash Extensions Care Plus What to Expect

Roadrunner Don’t Play That: This process is not a speedy one. When getting lash extensions set aside at least an hour in your schedule. Your lash extensions professional will be adding in volume/length to your natural lash line literally one hair at a time. So be patient and get ready to just set back and relax for awhile.

Rub a Dub Dub: You are going to want to but you must learn to resist temptation. Rubbing on your peepers will only cause lashes to fall out quicker. To keep your awesome eyelash look longer you need to institute a hands off policy for yourself.

To Clean Or Not to Clean: Well of course you are going to have to wash your face at some point but its HOW you go about doing it that will be a little of a challenge. Since the lashes are held in place by glue you need to be extremely careful when it comes to having any type of moisture coming near your extensions. Cleansing towelettes can help to safely remove dirt or makeup near the lashes. Never pull or tug on them or you risk losing hairs.

You Need to Cut It: (Insert dance moves) On the real you may need to literally cut out certain makeup. Some makeup contains oils that can wreck havoc on your extensions. Oils and lash extensions do not mix! We will say that again… oils and lash extensions do not mix so avoid using eye makeup that is oil based. Such products will only encourage strands to slide right out of their place.

Sleep Like a G: If you normally wake up with your face firmly planted in your pillow you may need to make a few adjustments. Friction created by sliding your face along your big fluffy friend will actually be damaging to your lashes. Lash extensions can easily be pulled out so it is best to rest in a position where your lashes rarely come into contact with your bedding. Women have found success sleeping on their backs or on their side slightly on top of their hand in order to protect the extensions.

I Don’t Think You Ready For This Gel-y: Waterproof eye makeup is very tough remove, however, if eyeliner is a must then using gel liner would be a better option. Gels a little easier to remove but care is still needed in order to not disturb the extensions.

Get Low: As time goes by you will notice your once full set of lashes looking a little on the low side. The lashes will fall out so this means going in to get them replaced. How often will you need to go in to see a lash extension expert? Every lady is different and it will depend on how well you take care of them. Most women average around 3-4 weeks with 6 being the max.

Betta Have My Money: Lash extensions are not cheap but many salons offer a discount to first-timers. This is done of course to get a girl hooked so that she will continue to get them in the future. Right at the gate you are looking at least $100 or more depending on volume as well as style. More dramatic looks will cost you more money. Also, keep in mind the maintenance costs. To maintain your lovely lash look you will need to go in for refills just like you would for acrylic nails.

Amber Rose Shows Off New Haircut!

You probably read this feature’s headline, “Amber Rose Shows Off New Haircut,” and thought why is that such a big deal? Well, the gorgeous model normally rocks a hair look that can be summed up or described as rather… well, bald. Rose’s infamous platinum shaved hairdo has been inspiring many other hair brave women to follow in her fearless footsteps and do the big snip. We had become so accustomed to seeing Amber Rose with her super short hairstyle that we almost didn’t recognize her as of late.

Let’s get some more details on the whole Amber Rose Shows Off New Haircut shall we? Amber was partying it up in hotlanta aka ATL aka Atlanta, Georgia when her new hair made its debut. Rose lived it up with a huge crowd and friends at the Gold Room. Moreover, her style was as fresh as her tresses. There was nothing mellow yellow about her attire! Rose wore an ensemble that showed off all her insanely stunning lady lumps. She wore a sunflower Gallagher dress by Jay Godfrey. She accompanied her sassy yellow dress with shoes by Aquazzura.

Going back to her hair (we digress LOL) Amber showcased another short hairstyle with a longer length. It still read fierce, it still was very edgy. However, is it bad that we prefer her bald look? It’s like when Halle Berry wears longer hair, don’t we all just wait it out till she goes back to her sexy crop cut? Some women just honestly do not need any hair on their heads and Halle as well as Rose are neck deep in that grouping.

Nevertheless, it was still a very beautiful look and it highlighted her stunning facial features. That is rule number one when thinking about going short dolls. Take into consideration your face shape and features when deciding on the perfect short hairstyle. Since once the locks are all gone there’s nothing left to hide behind. Short hair puts everything front and center.

In conclusion we loved Amber Rose’s new look. It’s always nice to change things up a bit. However, she kills the bald style like no other and we wouldn’t be mad if she went back to it.

Beauty Notes: Red lipstick is still a classic beauty look and immediately screams, “Yeah, I’m sexy and you know it, so take a picture it’ll last longer.” Maybe not in that order, but pretty darn close. Oh, and always line your lips to avoid the dreaded color bleed.

Hair of the Week: 2016 Met Gala

This year’s hairdos spotted at the 2016 Met Gala were just as exciting as the fashions that accompanied them. It wasn’t just about length or whether strands were up or down. There was one trend in particular that seemed to take the cake among the stars.

Hair color, hair color, hair color and say it with us, hair color! The 2016 Met Gala saw a wide range of hues. The varied looks included all ends of the spectrum. From platinum to rich deep, reddish plums. Highlights were also big on the 2016 Met Gala red carpet. However, enough yapping right? Here is quick breakdown of all the various hairstyles that revived our 2016 Met Gala Hair of the Week Award!

Amandla Stenberg

She literally allowed her hair to be her crown of glory. We absolutely adored her gold hair accessory.

Cynthia Bailey

After the show is the after-party! Reality starlet and model Cynthia Bailey hit the 2016 Met Gala after parties with a voluminous curly fro accented with a crown braid.

FKA Twigs

Here’s how to give those French braids a twist… literally. Twigs wore a braided updo that twisted at the nape up to about center. The look also incorporated hair jewelry that seamlessly went with her designer gown.

Beyoncé

Many could not simply take their eyes off Bey’s backside. We couldn’t either… her sleek tresses with the blonde hair color and highlights were seriously on point!

Zendaya Coleman

This is so modish and elegant we can’t stop staring. This cut is all about precision and execution. If you were born with retro and vintage vibes running through your veins you just gazed upon your new hairstyle.

Kerry Washington

She may have been wearing all black but Kerry’s hair was all types of bold. There was nothing subtle about her hair color that complimented her loose waves. If you’re going to the attend the Met Ball you might as well go all out or just stay home.

Jourdan Dunn

She had us at asymmetrical hair cut. Dunn’s Bob was pure perfection and only seemed to become more stunning from every angle. Moreover, the gray hue with dark roots was just killer.

Nicki Minaj

Her expertly placed platinum hair color showed true craftsmanship. Take note how the color extended all the way to the very tips. Bravo colorist, bravo.

Ciara

She’s currently working on a new album so why not a new hairstyle? CiCi came to slay with vintage waves and metallic silver strands.
