Trust us, seven words… Saint Laurent 100 Lou 48mm Retro Sunglasses. Living here in sunny Los Angeles we are as tied to our sunglasses as we are our smartphones, In-N-Out or vegan food. You know whatever one floats your boat. We have our ways and our fashion choices fall in line with them. We wake up to the sun shining in our eyes and even after it sets our attiude reflects a pop song from the 80’s; we “wear our sunglasses at night.” It is a necessary part of life so we Californians pretty much consider ourselves to be Sunglasses-Connoisseurs. Whatever is fresh, modern and trendy we are most likely a credit card swipe away from sliding them over our peepers.

Therefore, what is cool look for this season? Studded fashions have been everywhere so far this year. Jackets, belts and shoe-wear have all received the studded touch. Now the lovely three-dimensional detailing have found their way on yet another chic accessory.

We spotted model, Ajak Deng, wearing a brand new design by YSL aka Saint Laurent in celebration of it finally being the weekend. She posted several pics of herself while relaxing at a spa wearing her designer shades stating, “happy Friyaaaayyyyy.” She wore a pair of studded black sunnies known as Saint Laurent 100 Lou 48mm Retro Sunglasses as previously mentioned. Liya Kebede and Imaan Hammam For Vogue Italia April 2016

Iconic photographer Patrick Marchelier has once more created a stunning editorial for the Vogue Italia April 2016 edition. Color can be the spice of life, however, there is something majestic about classic, sophisticated black and white imagery. For the Vogue Italia April 2016 issue three models serve up a slice of visual heaven. Imaan Hammam, Liya Kebede and Gigi Hadid are all featured in the gorgeous shoot.

We especially enjoyed the stylized moody essence of the editorial. Each model displays a dark, somber yet beautiful pose that spotlights their individual glamour. The effortless and ease of their positions has a seductive, magnetic appeal. The Vogue Italia April 2016 “Individuallure” editorial by Marchelier is a come-hither masterpiece that is enchantingly captivating.

Besides, the models themselves, the fashions displayed are just as engaging. Liya, Imaan and Gigi all wear designs by Valentino. The couture proves that subtlety and simplicity can still be a very dramatic style presentation. Nevertheless, their ensembles were given extra flair thanks to bold statement jewelry.

To complement their sophisticated and conservative attire the model’s hair were flawlessly matched. They wore different hairstyles that could be described as “simple.” Liya’s tresses were elegantly pulled back, while Imaan and Gigi wore high chignons with wispy strands of hair flowing lightly around the hairline as well as the chignon itself.

Beauty Notes: Three words… less is more. Never underestimate the power of natural beauty. Emphasis on your best features can be even more gorgeous than a bold lip, strong contour and faux lashes. You’re beautiful so let the world the see it!

Hair of the Week: Ciara’s Voluminous Waves Announcing BBMAs!

Ciara’s hair this week made us want to get up and one, two step! Her tresses looked like they belonged in the grand state of Texas where everything is bigger. Ciara’s gorgeous voluminous waves spotted in NYC was quite fitting for the humongous news she had in her possession for this year’s BBMAs!

The BBMAs better known as the Billboard Music Awards are fast approaching in order to honor the best of the best in music. Ciara was on hand with hip hop artist Ludacris in New York City to announce this year’s nominees. However, the announcement would not be the only time we see this dynamic duo together in 2016. Ciara and Ludacris will be the hosts of the 2016 BBMAs next month!

This will not be Ludacris’ first stab at hosting one of the year’s hottest musical events. Like the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls Ludacris will 3-peat this year. So then, let us give a quick round of applause to Luda for scoring yet another hosting spot on the BBMAs.

Luda and CiCi make a great pairing for the show. They already have a smash hit under their belts due to working together. If the song Ride It came to mind go ahead and brush your shoulder off. You sir/ma’am are a music “G.”

Before this post closes let’s get back to that hair! Ciara scores our Hair of the Week award due to sheer volume alone. For weeks Ciara has rocked braids, updos and mostly very loose hanging waves. However, CiCi changed up her hair game by letting out her inner diva. She is serving us Diana Ross glamour. Moreover, the deep middle part gives her locks even more sleek attitude. We love it and hope to see more of it.

Instagram’s Sassy J Shutdowns Her Beauty Shamers!

Like many places, Instagram is not always the fun, pleasant locale for entertainment. In a world of views, comments, likes and dislikes many Igers feel free to say and express themselves in any way they desire. Even at the expense of hurting other’s feelings. Makeup connoisseur Jenae Toney aka Sassy J has experienced both sides of the Instagram coin. Basically, the good, the bad and the oh so ugly.

Sassy J is known for her dramatic beauty transformations and amazing makeup insider tips. Nevertheless, despite all of her gorgeous beauty contributions some have chosen to treat Sassy J quite cruelly. Everything from verbal insults to rumors as to her condition have all been spread due to the release of her before and after photos. Jenae is a very confident woman who will not to let any Instagram beauty shaming get the best of her. With one post Sassy J shutdown every single shamer for good! She stated,

“People spend a great deal of time assuming the worst when it’s not even as bad as people make it seem. Just to clarify I DO NOT have Alopecia, but what I do HAVE is ECZEMA which I suffered from growing up and even had it on my face quite bad to the point of not having brows. So there’s the TRUTH. Some of you have said such cruel things about me, some even said I have some type of cancer when I don’t. There’s things I can’t help and having brows is one of them.

I don’t want to get them tattooed either and I PREFER to draw them on, it’s a SELF PREFERENCE and I wish more people would respect that. With all the mean comments I get on my before/afters you’d think I’d fold under the pressure but I don’t. I’ve used it to my advantage and have used my Instagram platform for good and positivity.

While I always get bashed for simply being true to myself, some of you be so quick to praise the fake and that’s ok. But no matter [how] much negativity I get, I take the positivity and use that to allow me to flourish and continue to do what I do. I’m my OWN TYPE OF BEAUTY, I’m no IG BEAUTY and I’m happy that I’m not. No, that does not make me better because I believe we are all equals but know I do ME and that’s how it will ALWAYS BE.”

Very well said Sassy J! Jenae Toney is an inspiration to all girls and women who have ever endured negativity on any social media platform. Jenae has made the decision to be the beautiful, confident being that she is regardless of what others may perceive or think about her. A very wise, classy and sophisticated move. As she mentioned we are all equals so there is really no reason to put each other down. Instead lets embrace the beauty and talents that we all possess and be possitive. Life is short and misery loves company and who really wants to sit a table with people like that?

2016 MTV Movie Awards: Kat Graham Dolce Gabbana Throwback

Beauty Kat Graham attended the 2016 MTV Movie Awards in a form fitting vintage design. Well… that is if you consider 13 years long enough for fashion to be considered “retro.” Graham rocked a gorgeous Dolce and Gabbana dress that was apart of the DG Spring 2003 collection.

One of the biggest fears of any fashionable woman is showing up somewhere and seeing some other chick wearing the same exact look as you. Kat kind of had the same moment this past weekend at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards. If time travel was real or possible we could of boarded a machine and went back to the year 2003 and find Queen Bey wearing the same DG dress! Beyonce wore the sexy number for the recording of a show at Dave Letterman. Actually, that far back Bey wasn’t even Queen Bey and even more so Mr. Letterman isn’t even on TV anymore; so most likely, some may be reading this like who in the world is Dave?! Yeah, girls that’s just how far back we just went.

Let’s move things back forward then, shall we? We think both ladies definitely had the physiques to pull off the Dolce and Gabbana gown, however, we think Kat’s overall ensemble was put together a tad better. Instead of black accessories like Bey, Kat went for more neutral designs. Graham polished off her 2016 MTV Movie Awards look with Casadeio sandals, jewelry from Sethi couture, Levian and Rachel Katz as well as an Oroton clutch. For this particular dress we prefer less is more, but let’s still give credit where credit is due dolls. Beyonce still was setting the trends back in the day that would still be just as posh today.

Designer Michael Kors is putting the Californian gal back on the fashion map! For this spring season his couture is all about “Cali Cool.” To showcase his Michael Kors Spring 2016 chic garments he enlisted the talents of stunning model Malaika Firth. Firth along with supermodel, Lily Aldridge, star in the Michael Kors Spring 2016 Endless Sundays ad campaign.

Los Angeles style is not as glitzy as New York, demure as Paris or sassy as Miami. Nevertheless, it is all about being effortless and relaxed. We have no real seasons out here and the weather usually includes plenty of sun. Your laid back Sunday attire could very well be our daily uniform. However, it still takes fashion intuition to look like you didn’t do much to look amazing. California fashion is truly the epitome of the expression, “I woke up like this.” Maybe that’s why our style vibe is just so cool.

So how do Californian girls dress for spring and summer? The Michael Kors Spring 2016 collection perfectly captures the Californian spirit. White couture dominates the campaign’s color palette. Moreover, we love our dresses, skirts, sandals and shades out here. Those pieces ensure that we can keep the sun out of our eyes, enjoy the beach sand and comfortably deal with the heat as well as calm breeze. The Michael Kors Spring 2016 collection incorporates all the above plus other stylish items.

In the accessory department we are loving the MK weaved handbag. It just screams spring and summer. We can’t wait to tote our iPhones, lip gloss and large framed sunnies in one. Black Beautiful Women: Naomi Campbell Book Release

Black beauty was certainly beheld tonight at the Naomi Campbell book release celebration! Campbell’s book, Naomi, is a compilation of the supermodel’s outstanding career in the modeling industry. It is a hybrid two volume edition that tells of Naomi’s beginnings as well as showcases her entire exquisite modeling port.

The fashion elite as well as entertainment’s movers and shakers were all in attendance. Guest included celebrity stylist June Ambrose, CNN anchor Don Lemon, PR extraordinaire Randy Bowden Jr., Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour, Designer Marc Jacobs, Taschen CEO Benedikt Taschen and models the Hilton sisters and Bella Hadid. For the fabulous affair Naomi Campbell dazzled onlookers in a custom made design by Marc Jacobs.

Why should the Naomi Campbell book release mean so much to us black girls? Contemplating on what Naomi has been able to accomplish for three decades is something to marvel. Campbell began her career during a time when black models were barely seen on covers much less a catwalk. Yet, she rose to be an iconic supermodel of the 80s. She helped pave the way for more diversity as well as opportunities for black girls wishing to be apart of an industry that’s standard of beauty did not always include those of a darker shade.

Naomi rose to success not because of her skin tone, but because she possessed the talent, drive and finesse to make it happen. For every shoot, appearance and show she always presented herself at the highest level possible. She is a strong example that confidence, determination and a well-developed skillset can propel an individual to greatness.

What is more Naomi Campbell is still championing the success of black models and encouraging the industry to continue to diversify. Now with the release of her new book Naomi we all get a chance to turnaround and champion her and recognize her for her achievements. The Naomi Campbell book release honored the legacy of a woman that literally helped change the face of the fashion, modeling, and beauty industries forever. Late Night Beauty Call: Vicky Jeudy

Now this gorgeous lady can ring our bell any day! Orange is the New Black actress, Vicky Jeudy, is always a head turner, but we recently spotted a beauty look by Jeudy that made us want to head straight to a makeup counter. Her glittering look is fun for spring and is so perfect for such a shining star.

Vicky Jeudy recently rocked a bold lid with golden details. Her gold eye makeup was matched seamlessly with her metallic ensemble. Creating a matchy-matchy makeup look can sometimes result in a less than stellar outcome. In makeup at times too much of a good thing could turn bad. However, since the focus remained just on her eyes and the rest of her makeup was kept quite natural the matching element of the look did not overpower. Besides, the gorgeous gold we also loved her full lashes and strong eyebrows.

Why should you give gold eyeshadow a try this season? Gold is a color that describes a woman who chooses to indulge in luxury and glamour. It is a tint that denotes wealth, passion, grandeur, courage, glitz, love, wealth, compassion as well as illumination. If you are the type of girl that is all about the high-life with Boss Lady mentality then gold is definitely your color!

Moreover, gold looks AMAZING on brown skin. This season it is all about the “glow” when it comes to being trendy. So take a page from beauty Vicky Jeudy and shine like a star by incorporating metallics into your makeup arsenal.

The show may be officially over but the hair trends shall continue to rock! We hope that all of you ladies are feeling more confident and beautiful in your melanin skin. We loved the camaraderie seen not only during the Black Girls Rock 2016 show presentation but as well as behind the scenes. 2016 Gala Spa Awards Presents Naomi Campbell With Beauty Idol Award

Naomi Campbell has plenty to be proud of and moments to cherish. She has walked and opened runway shows for renown fashion designers. She has photographed for countless magazine covers and accompanying editorials. Moreover, let us not forget the numerous as campaigns as well as television and film appearances. Naomi is talented one woman show where onlookers can not seem to get enough. For the 2016 Gala Spa Awards Naomi Campbell was presented with the coveted Beauty Idol Award in lieu of her timeless beauty and aptitude.

The 2016 Gala Spa Awards were held in Germany on April 2, 2016. Campbell looked absolutely breath-taking to accept her well-deserved award. For the event, Naomi chose to go vintage. She wore a glamorous 1989 Pierre Cardin black lace haute couture gown. Her floor-length dress had much sex appeal due to a side split and see-through lace detailing. Naomi Campbell’s look proved the long held expression that what is old is new again.

Will there now be even more sightings of celebrities choosing to recycle classic fashions on the red carpet? Some have had the boldness to do so in the past like Naomi and we think it would be fantastic if others were to follow suit. How many of us fashion addicts have enjoyed googling past runway shows of the 50s, 60s, 70s. 80s, 90s and early 2000s? Those “retro” designs continue to excite and titillate us year after year. Such just goes to show that classic silhouettes and well-constructed couture will never go out of style.
