Beyonce Is CFDA Awards 2016 Fashion Icon

The waves of the fashion sea had been quite quiet when it came to who would be this year’s recipient of the CFDA Fashion Icon Award. Literally, you could of dropped a pin and the silence on the subject would of still remained. A few rumors had been sparked as to a certain queen of a hive who could possibly be the winner. Well, if you were still in wonderland you did not have to reside there long because Bey’s fans had started early to confirm their suspicions. Before long anyone with an Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat or Tumblr knew that Beyonce is CFDA Awards 2016 Fashion Icon!

How did they uncover the big secret of the night? Images and videos soon emerged of Jay-Z on his way to the CFDA Awards with little Blue Ivy in toe. That was the first piece of evidence that quickly began to circulate. The next piece of evidence was the smoking gun.

At about ten till 8 p.m. the official Twitter account for the CFDA made a simple yet humongous announcement stating,

“Behold! Your CFDA Awards Fashion Icon Award winner, the incredible and unparalleled Beyonce.”

Boom…there it is and there it was! It didn’t take much more than that for the Beyonce is CFDA Awards 2016 Fashion Icon news to spread like wildfire. In minutes every man, woman and child knew Beyonce was taking home the coveted Fashion Icon award. So what did an icon wear tonight for her big win?

Beyonce sparkled in a pinstripes Givenchy design. This seemed like a fitting choice since wearing Givenchy came up during her latest visual album Lemonade. Beyonce’s win is sure to cause a tiny stir and style debate due to the hoopla that began over her couture two years ago when a writer made the statement that Bey is not a fashion icon. Great performer with an okay style is what some claimed.

What does the evidence show? We were DMed quite a bit on Twitter regarding our views on Beyonce’s style. Here are our quick thoughts:

When we think of fashion icons the names: Diana Ross, Naomi Campbell, Grace Jones, Janet Jackson, Aaliyah, Prince, Michael Jackson and yes, Rihanna come to mind. Not our complete list by any means but they help to illustrate our point. These icons didn’t wear trends, they set them. People wanted and still try to immolate their style. For instance, MJ had everyone wearing a red jacket, super tight black pants, penny loafers and a glittery glove. Moreover, the fact that you visualized that outfit perfectly proves the effect and influence Michael had the fashion industry.

Everyone we named also has something else in common. They are considered stylish risk takers. Prince and his revealing chaps, Janet’s Poetic Justice braids/denim/crop top look, Aaliyah fully decked in Tommy Hilfiger, Diana’s sequined gowns and even Rihanna’s yellow Met Gala look. Focusing on Rihanna, people were so fashion starved at this year’s Met Gala they searched the Internet high and low for Rihanna who wasn’t even in attendance. She still ended up being the third searched for celebrity of the night.

Case in point look at all the editorials that continue to be made channeling Prince, Grace Jones and Aaliyah. There really hasn’t been a DC editorial tribute. Could be on its way but hasn’t made its debut yet.

In conclusion a fashion icon makes us beg for more and even after their career isn’t at its peak we can’t help but remember the good times. Beyonce is a gorgeous woman which is why we constantly write about her. Could she go harder in the style department? Yes and we would love to see it! We’ve been praying for the day she changes her hair color or takes some other stylish risk. We’d love to see more than the leotard because she has a dream hourglass body. The body people pluck and inject themselves for or configure up in some photoshop app. That body could wear, rock and stun in anything!

So yes, we will always tip our big hats (wink, wink) to Beyonce because she has survived in an industry for decades where most careers last two years if they’re lucky. In an industry that transitioned from being talent driven to imaged based. If anything that is worth an award in itself and an excellent reason to give credit where credit is definitely due. Congratulations Bey and great detective work tonight Beyhive.

Hair of the Week: 2016 Met Gala

This year’s hairdos spotted at the 2016 Met Gala were just as exciting as the fashions that accompanied them. It wasn’t just about length or whether strands were up or down. There was one trend in particular that seemed to take the cake among the stars.

Hair color, hair color, hair color and say it with us, hair color! The 2016 Met Gala saw a wide range of hues. The varied looks included all ends of the spectrum. From platinum to rich deep, reddish plums. Highlights were also big on the 2016 Met Gala red carpet. However, enough yapping right? Here is quick breakdown of all the various hairstyles that revived our 2016 Met Gala Hair of the Week Award!

Amandla Stenberg

She literally allowed her hair to be her crown of glory. We absolutely adored her gold hair accessory.

Cynthia Bailey

After the show is the after-party! Reality starlet and model Cynthia Bailey hit the 2016 Met Gala after parties with a voluminous curly fro accented with a crown braid.

FKA Twigs

Here’s how to give those French braids a twist… literally. Twigs wore a braided updo that twisted at the nape up to about center. The look also incorporated hair jewelry that seamlessly went with her designer gown.

Beyoncé

Many could not simply take their eyes off Bey’s backside. We couldn’t either… her sleek tresses with the blonde hair color and highlights were seriously on point!

Zendaya Coleman

This is so modish and elegant we can’t stop staring. This cut is all about precision and execution. If you were born with retro and vintage vibes running through your veins you just gazed upon your new hairstyle.

Kerry Washington

She may have been wearing all black but Kerry’s hair was all types of bold. There was nothing subtle about her hair color that complimented her loose waves. If you’re going to the attend the Met Ball you might as well go all out or just stay home.

Jourdan Dunn

She had us at asymmetrical hair cut. Dunn’s Bob was pure perfection and only seemed to become more stunning from every angle. Moreover, the gray hue with dark roots was just killer.

Nicki Minaj

Her expertly placed platinum hair color showed true craftsmanship. Take note how the color extended all the way to the very tips. Bravo colorist, bravo.

Ciara

She’s currently working on a new album so why not a new hairstyle? CiCi came to slay with vintage waves and metallic silver strands.

Lupita Nyong’o

One of the most talked about hairstyles of the 2016 Met Gala outside of Ciara came via Lupita Nyong’o. Lupita took natural hair to new heights with a five tier updo.

2016 MTV Movie Awards: Kat Graham Dolce Gabbana Throwback

Beauty Kat Graham attended the 2016 MTV Movie Awards in a form fitting vintage design. Well… that is if you consider 13 years long enough for fashion to be considered “retro.” Graham rocked a gorgeous Dolce and Gabbana dress that was apart of the DG Spring 2003 collection.

One of the biggest fears of any fashionable woman is showing up somewhere and seeing some other chick wearing the same exact look as you. Kat kind of had the same moment this past weekend at the 2016 MTV Movie Awards. If time travel was real or possible we could of boarded a machine and went back to the year 2003 and find Queen Bey wearing the same DG dress! Beyonce wore the sexy number for the recording of a show at Dave Letterman. Actually, that far back Bey wasn’t even Queen Bey and even more so Mr. Letterman isn’t even on TV anymore; so most likely, some may be reading this like who in the world is Dave?! Yeah, girls that’s just how far back we just went.

Let’s move things back forward then, shall we? We think both ladies definitely had the physiques to pull off the Dolce and Gabbana gown, however, we think Kat’s overall ensemble was put together a tad better. Instead of black accessories like Bey, Kat went for more neutral designs. Graham polished off her 2016 MTV Movie Awards look with Casadeio sandals, jewelry from Sethi couture, Levian and Rachel Katz as well as an Oroton clutch. For this particular dress we prefer less is more, but let’s still give credit where credit is due dolls. Beyonce still was setting the trends back in the day that would still be just as posh today.

No loves, those quiet moments was just like the calm before the storm because Beyonce has come out swinging some serious fashion and fitness power! Bey is releasing Ivy Park a new activewear line that will have you looking good as you work to feel and transform your body to be even better!

The ad campaign for Ivy Park is completely Sasha Fierce all the way! Bey is photographed at a playground balling out and even sitting pretty on top of a hoop. One of our fave shots is Beyonce on rings. She demonstrates her level of fitness and strength by holding herself up in a tough pose with her feet in the rings! Nevertheless, it’s Beyonce, this is the perfection and diva status we have come to love and expect.

This week E! Network correspondent, Zuri Hall, made a major fashion statement in a “New York minute.” Hall dazzled in a white couture suit by The Kooples as she strutted her stuff down the streets of NY. Nevertheless, it wasn’t all just about looking good, Hall was taking care of business!

Zuri told fans that she had achieved a new career pinnacle. One that was more like a life goal that she could now proudly scratch off her bucket list. Therefore, what big assignment and achievement did Hall accomplish? Zuri explained,

“I just moderated a NBC Universal panel in front of CEOs & execs, about branded content strategy! Taking the stage in the legendary SNL Studio= A bucket list (check mark).”

Well, just go on with your bad self Zuri! For a moment let’s get back to that bad and fab suit by The Kooples. How did Hall finish off her ensemble? Zuri wore sandals by Stuart Weitzman toted a stylish designer handbag by Chanel. Nothing says I’m about my business like a well-tailored suit with chic accessorizing.

Zuri Hall is not the only celebrity to rock The Kooples recently. Superstar Beyonce wore The Kooples leather shorts when she surprised everyone with an appearance on Lip Sync Battle in support of Channing Tatum. So from TV to music, celebrities want to get their hands on designs by The Kooples.

Laurel DeWitt Crown Worn By Beyonce

What is an Queen without her crown? Looks like Beyonce doesn’t have to worry about that question. Queen Bey had social media buzzing with the release of Coldplay’s latest single, Hymn For the Weekend. Beyonce is featured on the single as well as in the music video. In the vibrant video Beyonce is adorned by a headpiece by designer Laurel DeWitt.

The Laurel DeWitt brand is known for their enormously creative headwear. All metal apparel and accessory pieces are hand-crafted gems. Beyonce’s stylist Zerina Akers paired the Laurel DeWitt crown with a glamorous design by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. It is a red and gold sequins embroidered gown fit for royalty. Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla gave details regarding the dress stating,

“ALL HAIL THE QUEEN! Beyonce floors us as she kills it in Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. She wears a skin net lotus sequins hand embroidered dress embellished in gold sequins and crystals lined with red. A floor length Exotica Gota coat is worn over it. Hand embroidered in Gota, beads and multicolored Resham and appliqué work, it is an ensemble that screams Goddess at the very top of her game.”

We have to agree with that description. However, the glam did not just stop at the exquisite dress and Laurel DeWitt crown. For the Coldplay video Beyonce also wears a necklace by Erickson Beamon. All in all Beyonce’s fashions set the bar for music videos of 2016.

Use heat styling tools on a lower heat setting to protect tresses that may be more fragile due to the coloring process.
The lightening/highlighting process is no joke, in-between salon visits treat hair with plenty of conditioning treatments to help strands rebuild from any damage.
Keep blonde color from growing dull by using a clarifying shampoo every few weeks.
Base your hair color on how much money and time you are willing to invest in order to maintain it.
Keep hair strong by using a strengthening spray formulated for color treated hair on a weekly basis.

Beauty Quickie: Can we please put the myth to rest that black women do not need to wear sunscreen? It does not matter how dark your skin is or how much melanin you possess the sun can still cause havoc to your skin if is not protected. Black may not crack but due to environmental effects such as global warming and the disappearance of the ozone layer it is a very good idea to give your skin a little protective barrier to stay un-cracked.

Does sunscreen ever expire and if so when should it be replaced? Yes, sunscreen does indeed expire and the problem is most gals hang on to their bottle longer than they should. Most sunscreens have a shelf life of about three years then after that it should find a new home in a dumpster.

What happens when sunscreen expires? The ingredients found within the formula begin to separate thus becoming less and less effective. Therefore, if you are wearing expired beauty products such as sunscreen you are not really receiving the protection that you need.
