Shoe Game 2015 Strappy Heels5

As my mother used to always say, the quickest way to ruin a perfectly good outfit is by wearing the wrong pair of shoes. Shoe trends are always on the move but one that seems to make it’s sexy return is the strappy heel. These shoes work great with pants, dresses, skirts, skorts and jumpsuits. With such versatility you can not afford to not have a pair in your wardrobe.

5 Skincare Tips to Build Selfie Confidence

5 Skincare Tips to Build Selfie Confidence

There are so many things that run through our minds as soon as our phones are suddenly held at eye level. Does my hair look like I just walked a red carpet? Did I beat my face enough or can I use a little more eyeliner? OMG…is that really something in my teeth?

As stressful as those scenarios may sound what could ultimately be a bathroom photo shoot selfie stopper is a dare we say, PIMPLE! These horrible little buggers seem to pop up whenever we are trying to be the wonderful diva we are inside. Well fret no more for now we present 5 skincare tips to help build selfie confidence!

5 Skincare Tips to Build Selfie Confidence 2

1. Aim to use cleansers that contain salicylic acid or alpha hydroxyl acid which are amazing ingredients for unclogging pores.

2. Always apply moisturizer after washing your face in order to replace any moisture that was lost during cleansing.

3. Of course, we know you must use your hands to apply moisturizer but that’s all the touching that should really occur. Continuously touching the face runs the risk of transferring oils or bacteria to your skin.

4. Get into the habit of exfoliating your skin twice a week with products containing small grainy particles or micro-beads. Using such products will not only help to keep pores unclogged but will aid in new skin cell growth.

5. When it comes to cleansing use the twice daily rule. Cleaning your skin more often then that on a daily basis can actually create more inflammation and acne.

black hairstyles 10 celebrities that wore braids gorgeously

There are numerous black hairstyles that black women are wearing to help grow and maintain healthy hair. Celebrities in many ways are at the forefront in setting hair trends that will have us all running to the salon to cop it A to S and AP. Here are 10 celebrities who beautifully pulled off braided hairstyles.

Braids can look beautiful but to keep them looking pristine there is some maintenance needed. We will get into more of that in our next black hairstyles post. However, one issue some ladies come across when wearing braids is the dreaded itch.

We have all seen it or done it… the palm of the hand slowly creeps it way towards the head and the patting begins. Or if that doesn’t do it then as a last resort scratching becomes the next best option. Nevertheless, are there any black hairstyle tips that can be kept in mind in order to resolve this hair matter?

1. Dryness: Itching can occur when the scalp is very dry. In this case adding moisture could help to relieve any discomfort. Think braid oils as well as sprays and you will be on the right track.

2. Wash Cycle: The dreaded itch could also be a sign or indicator that it is time for cleansing to take place. Many naturalists are finding that using a dry shampoos do wonders to remove any itch.

Spotted: Beyonce in NYC Getting Her MAC On!

Spotted Beyonce in NYC Getting Her MAC On

Yesterday evening the one and only Queen Bey was spotted walking the streets of New York City in head-to-toe black. She looked chic in an asymmetrical cut-out dress, pointed toe heels and leather jacket. As we mentioned in a post last year wear your jackets like a cardigan to up the style factor. Come on, no diva or fashionista really needs to put her arms through sleeves anymore! That’s like SO 2013 (LOL) we have progressed people! (HaHa).

Let’s move down to the feet area for just a moment. Bey accessorized her ensemble with an ankle bracelet, that was not over-powering but enough to make a delicate statement. Ankle bracelets are trending and be sure to look out for our future post of some of our current favorite styles!

Nevertheless, didn’t we say that Beyonce was getting her MAC on? Well, she definitely was showing why she is a boss lady and say it with us… HUSTLER, by toting a silver Apple Macbook. We are sure that Apple is salivating over these shots as her legions of fans are probably currently burning their PCs in order to make the switch. Okay, you know our humor none of the sort is happening or maybe it’s just cool to see celebrities using the same products that we do!

How to Take a Great Photo

How to Take a Great Photo

Alright ladies we have all summer to get you prepped for next school year’s picture day or if you just want to look fierce in your summer selfies and pics with friends you are going to want to keep reading! Some find great anxiety in taking photos whether for a very specific reason or just for kicks. However, there are a few things you can do to look more flawless.

1. Dress Accordingly– It can feel like one big fashion show on Instagram and Tumblr, but remember it is about you and not everyone else. Wear clothes that fit well and that are not too busy. That loud geometric print ensemble may look a little messy in a photo, remember that less can be more and streamline.

2. Check Yo’ Self– You would not believe how many times that hair can mess up an otherwise “perfect” photo. Always look yourself over or have a trusted friend check you out and fix accordingly.

3. Stay Up– Avoid the dreaded double chin look in photos by keeping your head up.

4. Beat the Jitters– If you tend to get nervous and look like a deer in the headlights try thinking happy thoughts. More specifically, before the photo is snapped look away for a second and think of something really funny then look back at the camera and smile.

5. Fake an Overcast– Did you know that when it is overcast outside it is actually an ideal time to take a photo? Well, now that summer is upon us you can still fake these ideal conditions by setting your camera’s flash in sunlight mode. Doing so, will actually help to even out skin tone.

6. Work Those Angles– Take a clue from celebrities who walk the red carpet, for the most part they NEVER face the camera straight on. Create a long diagonal line and ultimately slimming effect by placing one leg out in front and pivoting your body slightly to the side. Place one hand your hips and you have struck one of the most famous Hollywood poses!

Alright girls now get out there and work it!!!

Coloring Your Hair and “The Wait”

Hair Coloring and the Wait

Hair Quickie: If you have just colored or dyed your hair try to wait at least 48 hours or more before washing your strands. This is because every time you wet the hair the cuticle opens and you want to give your hair time to seal in the color. Therefore, if you are planning activities where you know you will need to shampoo your hair it is best not to color your hair right before that time.

Michael Costello SS15 Runway Show

Michael Costello SS15 Runway Show

Michael Costello’s runway show for El Paseo Fashion Week was brimming with so many show-stopping pieces we don’t even know where to begin! We gushed over his all noire designs that consisted of long gowns, jumpsuits and short flirtatious dresses with cut-outs. Backstage Michael shared with us that the collection was inspired by samurai warriors and each ensemble we saw fit the bill because they were fierce, sassy and extremely sexy. You can always tell when even the models are enjoying the fashions, their walk becomes harder, stronger and they simply stomp to the death. Every last model served it like their rent, electric and Iphone bills were due!

Costello’s femme fatale show gave us style shivers also thanks to lovely embellishments that included: fur, low V-cuts, sparkle, pockets, high splits, sheer fabrics and bold silver shades. Michael’s breathtaking show also included menswear, but for more on that be sure to lookout for our exclusive interview with Michael in our April issue!

Video Alert! Scroll down to see our quick recap of Michael Costello’s SS15 show!
