It is no surprise that Viola is on this prominent and celebrated list. Her 2017 started off with bang and everything just kept rising from there. Just a few days into the year Viola received a star on the infamous Hollywood Walk of Fame. A few weeks later she graces the Academy Awards stage holding a gold statue in her hand. She is there to be honored with an Oscar for her talents, courage and versatility.
Furthermore, that very night Voila Davis made even more history. Her big win made her the first African American woman to receive an Oscar, Tony as well as Emmy. Therefore, to say Davis is “influential” is an understatement. Nevertheless, Time Magazine released the following snippet highlighting why Viola was chosen for the issue. It states,
“Viola Davis is one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People of 2017. Viola Davis’ hard-won, mid-life rise to the very top of her profession has not led her to forget the rough trip she took getting there,’ writes fellow actress Meryl Streep. ‘And that is why she embodies for all women, but especially for women of color, the high-wire rewards of hard work and a dream, risk and faith.”
