PowerPuff Girls x Moschino Launch Party

90s babies and kids unite! Jeremy Scott has designed an epic collection featuring one of the best gal toon trios ever made. Last night, Jeremy Scott and his fashion forward girlfriends came together to celebrate the launch of the PowerPuff Girls x Moschino line.

The Purple Unicorn, Justine Skye, attended the event and shared her thoughts regarding the line. She seemed to have fun on social media showing fans her look for the party. She even made reference to a new change to her Instagram. For the past few weeks the singer had only posted black and white photography. Nevertheless, for the PowerPuff Girls x Moschino launch she was “colorful.” Justine went on to say,

“In love with the new collection Jeremy Scott! Thank you for having me, can’t wait to go to the show.”

Empire’s Serayah was also in on all the fashion fun. If time machines were real we would of thought Serayah had come out of one. We loved the styling of her boisterous ensemble right down to the choker! In regards to the line Serayah said,

“Always kisses for the genius Jeremy Scott for this amazing PowerPuff Girls line, I was always Bubbles who were you?!”

Jeremy Scott is truly a visionary when it comes to fashion. Scott has never had a collection that disappoints. His designs are for the girl who is not afraid to just be herself and enjoy life. Jeremy was happy to have Justine and Serayah apart of his big night stating,

“And these beauties last night! Serayah and Justine Skye last night wearing a mix of Jeremy Scott and Moschino for my PowerPuff Girls x Moschino Launch Party. #GirlPower.”

It definitely was a night full of 90s girl power. We didn’t think the Barbie designs could be outdone but Jeremy always knows how to wow us. Congratulations on the PowerPuff Girls x Moschino line Mr. Scott we know its going to be successful!

Laurel DeWitt Crown Worn By Beyonce

What is an Queen without her crown? Looks like Beyonce doesn’t have to worry about that question. Queen Bey had social media buzzing with the release of Coldplay’s latest single, Hymn For the Weekend. Beyonce is featured on the single as well as in the music video. In the vibrant video Beyonce is adorned by a headpiece by designer Laurel DeWitt.

The Laurel DeWitt brand is known for their enormously creative headwear. All metal apparel and accessory pieces are hand-crafted gems. Beyonce’s stylist Zerina Akers paired the Laurel DeWitt crown with a glamorous design by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. It is a red and gold sequins embroidered gown fit for royalty. Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla gave details regarding the dress stating,

“ALL HAIL THE QUEEN! Beyonce floors us as she kills it in Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. She wears a skin net lotus sequins hand embroidered dress embellished in gold sequins and crystals lined with red. A floor length Exotica Gota coat is worn over it. Hand embroidered in Gota, beads and multicolored Resham and appliqué work, it is an ensemble that screams Goddess at the very top of her game.”

We have to agree with that description. However, the glam did not just stop at the exquisite dress and Laurel DeWitt crown. For the Coldplay video Beyonce also wears a necklace by Erickson Beamon. All in all Beyonce’s fashions set the bar for music videos of 2016.

Halle Berry Talks Hollywood Diversity Since Oscar Win

Halle Berry Talks Hollywood Diversity Since Oscar Win

Hollywood diversity has been a real hot topic as of late. New school and old school entertainers have all took a turn weighing in on things. This week Halle Berry spoke of Hollywood diversity while she attended the Makers 2016 conference.

This year the Oscars were deemed as being slanted or one-sided. Halle would be the perfect woman to speak on this matter due to the fact she has actually won an Academy Award. Moreover, her acceptance speech highlighted the very struggle actors and actresses of color faced… Hollywood diversity. Berry reminisced,

“I believed that in that moment, that when I said [during my acceptance speech], ‘The door tonight has been opened,’ I believed that with every bone in my body that this was going to incite change because this door, this barrier, had been broken. To sit here almost 15 years later, and knowing that another woman of color has not walked through that door, is heartbreaking. It’s heartbreaking because I thought that moment was bigger than me. It’s heartbreaking to start to think maybe it wasn’t bigger than me. Maybe it wasn’t. And I so desperately felt like it was.”

Yes, believe it or not it has been 15 years since Halle’s win and a woman of color has not won since. Therefore, what is the problem, why are actors/actresses not winning or being nominated? Many have their views and theories, but some feel Viola Davis hit the nail on the head when she said, “Opportunity.” Halle Berry seems to agree, at the conference she stated,

“As filmmakers and as actors, we have a responsibility to tell the truth. And the films, I think, that are coming out of Hollywood aren’t truthful. … They’re not really depicting the importance and the involvement and the participation of people of color in our American culture.”

Opportunity of receiving choice roles and true representation in film seems to be slowing progress in Hollywood. Where is our Cleopatra, Romeo and Juliet, Ben Hur, Chariots of Fire, Terms of Endearment, Rain Man, Forest Gump, Gladiator, Million Dollar Baby, The Artist and Birdman? Most films that win Oscars only show people of color under one light. From Gone With the Wind to 12 Years a Slave movie goers have only been treated to one part of Black History. We challenge filmmakers to go outside the box and take chances. For if we want Hollywood diversity to change we must also be diverse in story lines and production.

Ciara Causes Fashion Stir At National Championship

Ciara Causes Fashion Stir At National Championship

Thanks to a few choice words penned by a journalist Ciara had television viewers thinking, “Wardrobe Malfunction Part Deux?” Oh, who of us can forget the Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake Super Bowl performance oops? If it hadn’t been for that little onstage situation TiVo and DVR may have failed to become such an important entertainment entity. However, many would agree that Ciara’s national anthem performance was far from being at risk of becoming yet another infamous style moment for all the wrong reasons. Yet still, Ciara causes fashion stir at national championship.

As numerous CiCi fans have tweeted, hashtagged and Instagramed; Ciara looked simply divine. Ciara wore a cape gown by Yousef Aljasmi that gracefully showed off her curves. As social media heated upon sight of her ensemble, Ciara’s sexy NFL boyfriend, Russell Wilson had a few words of his own. Russell took to his personal social media stating,

“I see you baby! Sounded amazing and looked flawless in every way!”

Alright ladies altogether now, “Awwww!” Pushing aside the fashion controversy we have to agree with Wilson that Ciara looked flawlessly chic. Nevertheless, what are your thoughts on Ciara’s dress and was it appropriate or slightly too much for a national broadcast? Weigh in dolls!

Naomi Campbell For Balmain SS16

Naomi Campbell For Balmain SS16

Many of us are too young to remember the reign of the 80’s supermodels, but a quick google search will clearly show why they were so special. They were gorgeous, talented and did not get out of bed if the money wasn’t right. From magazine covers to editorials, from campaigns to music videos as well as commercials they were like Visa, everywhere you want to be. The 80’s were about extragance and these ladies were the epitome and could do no wrong.

Naomi Campbell For Balmain SS16-2

For this reason, we were beside ourselves when we got our first look at the Balmain Paris Spring/Summer 2016 Ad Campaign. Three supermodels that can still slay women half their age had been casted to show off Balmain’s exquisite designs! Proving that age is really just a number Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer brought the heat to spring’s hottest fashions.

The campaign was lensed by Steven Klein with Pascal Dangin as art director. Oliver Rousteing has been teasing fashion fans for a few days now asking were they ready for 2016. Whether they were ready for it or not Oliver put the hammer down and dropped the proverbial fashion mic.  With an one-two punch Rousteing seamlessly introduced the fashion world to as he described via Instagram, “iconic history” that involved a true “dream team.” We couldn’t agree more with his sentiments and are thrilled as well as in awe as to what has been created.

As diversity in the fashion world continues to be spread why not toss in the age factor as well? Women do not stop being fashionable entities after the age of 25 even if they are considered veterans in the modeling industry at such a tender age. Therefore, let’s continue to celebrate beauty in all of its numerous forms regardless of color or numerical identification.

Congolese Cultural Creations

Contributing cultural fashions to New York Fashion Week is always welcomed in a city of cultural diversity. During market week in September, African elegance arrived at New York’s Plaza Hotel. The Kapy Bash Mode collection debuted in a collective showcase of international presenters to an audience of style enthusiast, fashion influencers and media makers. Kapy Bash Mode offers African ethnic gowns that are inspired by cultures from the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The Kapy Bash Mode uses liputa, ankara, french lace, bazin, satin and linen fabrics. There is a soon to debut resort line of acrylic swimwear fashions and ankara boxer shorts for men. The creator, Kapinga Bashala has been designing for the Kapy Bash Mode brand for twenty-six years. She has designed custom gowns for television personalities, government dignitaries, pageants and bridal parties.

There are many negative misconceptions about African cultures and lifestyle. Contemporary African fashion are demystifying the negative stereotypes. With each ethnic gown I create, I share an experience of Congolese’s cultural decadence with the world.” explains Kapinga.

With her busy schedule, Kapinga still finds time to be philanthropic by helping to fund educational programs for underprivileged children in the Dem. Rep. of Congo. Kapinga also helps misfortunate Congolese women develop fundamental skills for starting a small business. A percentage of KBM’s online proceeds goes to fund the charity ‘Kapy Bash for Mothers and Children’. Sharing culture through fashions not only helps others experience unique heritage, it helps preserve heritage through collective economics. Now that is a sustainable trend that is always in style.

LACMA Art + Film Gala 2015

LACMA Art + Film Gala 2015

Art is defined as “the quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.” Film is a genre of art that is the compilation of skills, techniques, vision and loving labor in order to entertain and excite audiences the world over. Throughout history the flavor as well as vibe of art has not stayed the same but has changed to reflect the spirit of the times. For instance, the art designed during the Renaissance differs from crafts created in art periods such as: Art Nouveau, Baroque, Romanticism, Gothic, Surrealism and Egyptian.

Therefore, we could not assume that throughout time that film would remain the same as well. We have seen advancements in film in a very short amount of time from silent films to spectacular CGI masterpieces. It is clear that art and film truly do cross paths and go hand in hand.

In recognition of this simple fact this past Saturday a gala was held by Gucci and Los Angeles museum LACMA to honor artist James Turrell and filmmaker Alejandro G. Inaartu. Proceeds from the gala go towards making film a more central aspect of the museum’s curatorial programming. This in turn would help to provide more acquisitions, education and exhibitions showcasing the relation between art and film.

The event was presented by actor Leonardo Dicaprio and LACMA trustee Eva Chow and included much celebrity fanfare. Stars from film, fashion, art and music industries collided to lend their support and pay homage to the night’s honorees. Keep scrolling to see a few of our favorite looks spotted coming down the blue carpet.

Meet Emmanuel Lartey One of ATL’s Hottest Designers

Meet Emmanuel Lartey One of ATL's Hottest Designers (2)

We recently had the opportunity as well as pleasure of interviewing an emerging designer who hails from ATL, Georgia. Due to such popular shows such as the Real Housewives of Atlanta, the style influence from the ATL has never been hotter! Emmanuel Lartey is breathing new life into the fashion scene by designing clothing that reflects his own work ethic, values as well as personality. Lartey’s determination for success is inspiring and definitely of note to be imitated. Read on to learn more about Emmanuel Lartey as well as his up and coming brand, Eldesign.

Who or what inspired you to develop your own clothing line?

Life inspired me to start my own clothing line. It wasn’t till I graduated from college that I learned how life hits you in the face and its either sink or swim. So after some hard days, I would listen to my music and create whatever design that god placed in my head. It became an outlet and a way for me to express myself.

Have you always had an interest in fashion?

No it wasn’t till I graduated from college and gave up football that I wanted to learn more about the fashion world and put my flavor in it.

How did the name of your brand, Eldesign, come about?

Eldesign is the name of my brand. I used my initials+design to create eldesign.

What type of girl or woman would you say that your clothing line would appeal to?

My clothing line would appeal to females and kids. The kids clothing will consist of different versions of Creg, who is my brand’s mascot.

Please break it down for us, what type of items are available for purchase including hats, shirts, etc. and where can ladies go to get your designs?

Eldesign makes hats, shirts, pants, and different accessories. Follow us on IG @eldesignthecollection, like us on Facebook eldesignthecollection, and check out our website www.eldesignthecollection.com for new releases.

What challenges have you experienced as a designer and how are you overcoming them?

Some challenges I experienced at the beginning, was deciding who my brand will target. I was caught up in showing off my talent that I didn’t realize that most of my loyal customers were mostly females. So I made some changes and created more female apparel. This was my way of thanking my loyal customers.

Where would you like to see your brand take off to in the future? Meaning in 5 or 10 years when people say or hear Eldesign what do you hope that they will be thinking?

In 5 Years my brand will be recognized internationally and when people say Eldesign the first thing they will think of is Creg. I am confident in this prediction because of my vision, grind, and god’s will.
