Flat irons can be great for straightening your hair if you have curls or frizz, but only if they are used in the right way. Too many new flatiron owners don’t read the directions when they make a purchase. If you’re a new owner or inexperienced user, ignoring basic instructions can lead to poor results.

Keep in mind that there’s a right way and a wrong way to do everything – including straightening your hair. Also remember that flat irons aren’t necessarily effective for everyone. If you have naturally straight hair (really straight, that is) then you likely will gain nothing from using a flat iron. If you have naturally curly or frizzy hair, you’ll appreciate the convenience of a flat iron and the benefits of avoiding harsh chemicals.

Contrary to popular belief, straightening your hair with a flat iron doesn’t take very long at all once you’ve mastered the process. Newer irons with technology such as ionization far exceeds the irons of days past. Because of this, more and more people are turning to them to make their curly, wavy and frizzy hair straight.
